KUALA LUMPUR: The resolutions regarding the Port Klang Free Zone issue were passed unanimously at the MCA central committee meeting, says party president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat.
Ong said everybody present was well aware of what had taken place during the meeting, which was held last Tuesday.
“There was a unanimous decision made after a fair amount of deliberation and amendment during the meeting, which also included the party deputy president (Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek),” he told reporters after launching the Wanita MCA’s Women and Children Aid Bureau (WCAB) counselling room at its headquarters here yesterday.
The decisions made were witnessed by everybody at the meeting, he added.
He was responding to a statement by Dr Chua that the party should not be involved in the personal feud between him (Ong) and Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.
Asked on Tiong’s call for his accounts to be checked following allegations that the former had handed RM10mil to him as “donation” to the party, Ong said:
“He (Tiong) can say whatever he likes but justice and truth will still prevail.
“The truth will be upheld no matter what and not because of the hebohan (rantings) of an individual whose credibility is under question.”
To a question, Ong said he had not been called for questioning by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, adding that “if there was such a matter, the media would know of it,” he said.
Later, after a closed door meeting with Selangor MCA delegates, Ong said MCA’s transformation must be more than mere ideals and slogans.
Members, he added, had to understand that they needed to show the people that MCA was committed to fighting graft and eradicating malpractice.
“By and large, the questions raised by the members clearly indicated their strong interest in party affairs and an in-depth understanding of key issues,” he said, adding that the PKFZ controversy was a key issue raised during the three-hour meeting.
“I told them nothing but the truth. They asked because they wanted to know the real root causes and I obliged,” he said.
